Each year, Women for UMass Amherst awards grant funding to worthy campus programs or projects. In the past, individual awards have ranged between $1,000 - $5,000.
The application process to receive grants/awards from the WFUM fund consists of these steps:
- Attend a required info session on September 16, 17, or 18. If you missed these info sessions, please contact Alyssa Leonard (aleonard@uma-foundation.org) immediately. The make up session will be held October 1.
- Applicants submit the WFUM award application online via this platform (SMApply).
- Applicants submit the WFUM Budget Spreadsheet online via Cognito Forms. Please be sure to include your entire project budget; all expenses for the project, as well as all confirmed and pending funding sources.
- Applications will then be reviewed by the WFUM Grant Review Committee which will narrow down the pool of applicants to a group of finalists
- Applications are worth 50%.
- Please note: only completed applications (submitted completed application and budget worksheet) will be eligible for review.
- Finalists will then meet with the committee in a virtual meeting to answer a few questions based on the application submitted
- Presentations are worth 50%
- The Committee will then select Award recipients and all applicants will be notified of their status.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for funding of any project that aligns with the mission of Women for UMass Amherst, purpose of the WFUM Fund and mission and goals of UMass Amherst.
Applications can be started and saved for submission at a later date. Start your application early to ensure you can gather all needed responses by the deadline.
Restrictions do apply. The WFUM Grants Committee will not fund the following:
- Giveaway or swag items
- Payments to students, staff, or faculty who support the project
- Prizes or raffles
- Research projects (personal or group)
- Events/programs seeking to earn funding 2x in one academic year
- Events/programs whose impact/focus is 25% or more focused outside the UMass Amherst community
- Programs / events that occur beyond the grant timeline
- Fall cycles: Project must be wrapped up by June 30
- Spring cycles: Project must be wrapped up by December 31
• Events/programs that have been awarded funding for 2 years in a row
Events/programs who have been awarded funding 2 years in a row must first receive approval to apply. If your group falls into this category, please email Alyssa Leonard to complete a separate questionnaire to receive special permission to apply. Email: aleonard@uma-foundation.org.
The Committee will make determinations as to travel expenses on a case-by-case basis.
Please note: all grants will be issued their first half of funding upon acceptance of the grant. The remainder of your funds will be dispersed after the completion of your final project report which is due two weeks after the end of your project date - pending review.
All grant applications and recap documents are subject to review by the WFUM Grants Committee and UMAF staff liaison.
